ByteByson · First transfer
From server
to finished download.
ByteByson downloads files and folders from SFTP and FTPS servers to a Mac with macOS 15.6 or later. It does not upload files.
Choose the connection you already have
Use SFTP with a password or supported SSH private key. Use explicit or implicit FTPS with a password. Obtain the host, port, credentials, and permitted remote folder from the server owner.
- Create a connection and select the required protocol.
- Enter the server details and authentication method.
- Check the SSH host fingerprint or FTPS certificate before approving the server.
- Browse to the file or folder you want to download.
Start and follow a download
Use Download… with Command + D, the row’s arrow, or drag a remote item into Finder. Choose where the file should go on your Mac.
A folder becomes one transfer and downloads its contents in order. Use the queue to pause, resume, reorder, or restart work. All Transfers keeps work visible after you close a connection window.
Finder shows an unfinished file with a .partial name. The final name appears when the download completes. Existing completed files stay in place; a new copy receives a numbered name.
Recover from an interruption
ByteByson tracks unfinished downloads and retries a dropped connection. A network change or wake can trigger an earlier retry. Check a connection that asks for credentials or server approval.
Closing a window keeps its downloads running. Quitting stops ByteByson. Reopen the app to resume unfinished work; transfers you paused remain paused.
Inspect any reported remote-file change before restarting a transfer. Use the queue’s current state and message rather than assuming every partial file can resume.
Understand the purchase route
ByteByson costs $8 USD as a one-time purchase. Your first successful Sign in with Apple starts a 30-day trial.
After the trial ends, starting new downloads requires a purchase. Previously accepted downloads can still finish, resume, and retry. The direct and Mac App Store builds follow the same access rules.
Keep the direct build current
Use Check for Updates… in the ByteByson menu, or Software Update in Settings. Install an update when your current downloads can stop; quitting follows the normal transfer shutdown behavior.
